Referrals come from professionals and individual families and there is an evaluation of needs completed before and after the sessions starts. This enables me to look at specific areas of difficulty the child is having and helps me to sign post to other services if they are more appropriate.
I initially offer 10 sessions of “special time” or “a time for you.”
I see that the environment that I create needs to give the child freedom, within safe boundaries. Allowance and acceptance of their emotions, giving children choices and going at their pace. The child leads and I follow, literally at times. Reflecting genuinely on what they are doing, working together to build trust in the relationship.
Preparation involves home visiting families, meeting with teachers and other professionals with update meetings approximately every 10 sessions.
Play Therapy recognises the importance of bonding and how this affects children’s emotional well-being. Looking at each child as an individual and their families or carers as being the most knowledgeable person about the child.
A special time once a week recognises every child’s inner spark to start the healing process. A space where they can be themselves and where I have no hidden agenda.
I am enthusiastic and committed to early intervention and giving my time in the way I see as most beneficial to the young children I work with.
